Aminah is a licensed social work professional and licensed clinical substance abuse counselor with over 40 years of experience in the, mental health and human services field providing services to children, families, couples and adults struggling with life’s many obstacles.

What is the educational background of Aminah Yusuf, PhD, MS, MBA, LMSW?


She graduated with her Bachelor in Communication studies from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 1984. Her professional career began with mentoring college student with cultural transition issues, then with children in Philadelphia working as a supervisor in a group home, then moving on to residential treatment for youth. She then transitioned to working with children in foster care and their children. Aminah’s career then moved to New Jersey after her relocation working with youth and their families with addiction and behavioral problems. At this time her focus with addictions counseling for youth and adults in outpatient and inpatient settings.

Aminah then began providing services in a prison-based treatment program as a counselor and then promoted to unit director. It was during this time, she achieved her CADC, Judiciary certification, and LCADC in NJ. Her career in New Jersey ended in the Judiciary system with TASC and Drug court.

During the time in the court system Aminah began seeking further education by completing Masters in Business from American intercontinental University of Illinois in 2006, Masters of Science, Psychology from University of Phoenix in 2010, and completed educational requirements (all but dissertation) of PhD in Sports Psychology. Shortly after, Aminah went to work in the intensive treatment modality of in-home therapy providing counseling for youth and their families as a consult for Where Kids Thrive LLC. After moving to Delaware Aminah began working with a Federally funded healthcare center as substance abuse and mental health counselor until the present. Aminah holds the Delaware LMSW and is awaiting reciprocity for the counselor of addictions certification

Aminah has continued to seek professional training in Nurtured Heart, Trauma-informed play therapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Parent focused model ARC-GROW Crisis Intervention, ASAM with one on one sessions with David A Lee, Relapse prevention with Terrence Gorski, Therapeutic community treatment Initiation and development with Robert De Leon, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing- Institute of Creative Minds, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.
